There has been an important increase in activity in New Caledonia during the last six months, with the transfer of resources previously based in Brisbane and the launching of construction work.
The current work program encompasses the following posts:
• Community Relations Program
• Development of local companies
• Obtaining permits and authorisations necessary to the project
• Educational program and describing characteristics of the site
• Environmental study
• Revegetation program
• Development of access road to site and construction infrastructures
• Overseas Training programs for New Caledonian staff
Construction for the revitalisation phase began in February 2007, starting with fencing off the South of the Vavouto industrial site.
Construction for the RT1 intersection connecting the access roads to Vavouto and the mine were finalised in September 2007. A new entry to the sites is currently operational.
Other preparatory construction work, as a preamble to the major construction, is also underway, such as the platform for the offices close to the RT1, the access road of the RT1 to the accommodation compound, the platform for the accommodation compound, an accommodation compound of 200 beds (phase 1) and associated networks (electricity/water) and the access road of the mining camp to the construction site (port, plant and power station).
The next stages therefore consist in finalising the preparatory work in the lead up to construction, including the development of access to the site and functional infrastructure.
During the 3rd trimester of 2007, detailed engineering and supply activities are demobilised to Kuala Lumpur.
The mobilisation of tenders relating to the construction camp, the major earthwork, dredging and batches of technical equipment for the electrical power station begins in the first trimester of 2007.
During the 4th trimester of 2007, the major earthwork begins and tenders relating to the land-based conveyor market and the construction zone of the modules are launched.
